Six women carried her coffin - I found that so intensely moving and so powerful. Great to hear her voice too. What an inspirational woman - thank you for telling us her story Darya.

Thank you, Tanya! I found this fact to be very touching and powerful, too. Lesia Ukrainka was an inspiration for many, and it’s tragic that her life was so short. However, she continues to live in her books and poems.

"I’m ashamed that we are so unfree, that we are still wearing shackles, and sleeping peacefully in chains."

What a great line and how apt for so much of what is going on in the world today. When I read some of her poetry I was reminded of some of John Keats poems which I have not read for decades but which have some of that same melancholy beauty to them. Different eras different sex but a very very talented woman.

Thank you, Brian! I'm glad to share Lesia Ukrainka's story and works, and I hope more people will learn about her! Her poems are incredibly beautiful, especially in original. Unfortunately, English translation cannot fully convey the original rhythm, words, and rhymes.

So much history in this piece about Lesia Ukrainka including her personal relationships which I had no idea about. I have not read any of her work yet but am very eager to do so now. The photos are really cool, too. Thank you, Darya.

Such a talented, inspirational and gifted woman. I’ve seen the Forest Song Ballet twice here in Auckland, New Zealand; performed by the Grand Kyiv Ballet of Ukraine. It is even more special to me now, knowing that Lesia Ukrainka wrote this.

Thank you again for sharing her story Darya. 🇳🇿🫂🇺🇦

My God, I am in sheer awe of Lesia's spirit, strength, defiance and perseverance. A model for modern women to follow! Truly inspiring and a welcome breath of fresh air during these terrible times we are living. You did a fantastic job compiling this for would-be readers, thank you!
