My heart hurts for the whole world. I am embarrassed as an American. We are so easily manipulated. I had hope that we would choose a better future and yet we did not. We have become the good Germans from WWII. I won't stop fighting either Darya. It's just become a lot harder. Thank you Darya for your words of experience.
Thank you Darya for the words of warning to those buying cheap promises for simple solutions to complex problems...It will be a while before we see the worst of what we Americans have wrought from this week.
I still hope for the better. This country has been through a lot, and so many people have fought to make it better and to make it a home for us all. There are always setbacks, and while this one is big, we must not lose our spirit and keep moving forward.
Powerful words, Darya. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am Australian and we see some of the same concerns here. Far too many Aussies want easy answers to complex issues, and are drawn to Trump-style politics. It is like a spreading sickness across democratic countries.
Very powerful messages Darya, thank you for sharing. Your second paragraph really resonated with me, as did the your observation that this is the beginning, not the end - stay strong (said as much to myself as anyone else).
Darya! Wow! Thank you for sharing this; so grateful to read of your experience. There is going forward from here and hope is just beyond the darkened skies. Many blessings and MUCH LOVE, ~Wendy💜
Thank you for your words, Darya. They are encouraging. The day after the election I woke with my heart heavy for the people of Ukraine and my friends there. I needed to hear this.
Thank you so much, Darya, for your words of hope that are informed by your own experience. I believe there is a silver lining as the entire system is so broken and serves mainly the 1% at this point. The economy, the justice system, healthcare, education, our political system, including campaign finance laws: most of it is not functioning well, if at all, and people are suffering. Maybe this administration will hasten the inevitable collapse that apparently has to happen before anything changes. It’s painful but true, like a healing crisis in an illness. We all need to stay focused and awake, supporting each other and our communities. Blessings, Darya.
Matt Gaetz as Attorney General is not an appointment any sane politician would make. One of many bad choices. But 74 million plus Americans decided to take the Trumpocaine and it's critical to recognise that was a conscious decision they all made knowing who Trump was and what he would do this time around. This is not a time to blame foreign influence or desperation or lack of education or any of those other recycled excuses from 2016. It is time to recognise something is morally rotten with USA and a significant portion of its citizens. That is where the start of the work to make USA a morally grounded and great country again must start. Honesty with itself and about it's 74m plus citizens who made a morally indefensible choice freely is a first and necessary step.
I agree that honesty and understanding what led to this election outcome are very important in order to move forward. Indeed, the desperately needed change starts from within.
The irony of Trump's victory is that it was not brought about by Trump's strength, but by an unforeseen weakness in the Democrat camp.
It was set off by the conflict in the Middle East.
The Hamas attack against Israel caused 2 groups who normally support the Democrats, to abstain in the Democrat primaries.
These are the pro-Israel voters sensitive to the Hamas attack, and pro-Palestinian voters disgusted by Israel's over-reaction & long-standing abuse of Palestinians.
With the great reduction of votes for Democrats, largely in areas with many immigrants or large Jewish populations, evidently this abstention continued in the election.
It is too massive & too concentrated in certain populations to be something else, such as a dislike of a woman president.
Also, the votes didn't go to Trump, as his votes also fell, but not nearly as dramatically as those for the Democrats.
My idea of why the loss.
As long as Ukraine can survive, that gives an element of hope.
There will be more resistance to Trump's excesses, and in 2 years, probable setbacks for the Republicans in the mid-term elections.
Also, support for Ukraine in congress was strong, with most members still sitting. Thus it will be politically difficult for Trump to totally stop support for Ukraine, even in trying to make a "deal" with his "friend Putin".
I agree that there were many reasons why the elections had such an outcome. As the saying goes: Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. I think that is what we should do.

Thank you, Sonia! I agree, it became much harder to fight but also more urgent and necessary to keep doing it.

Thank you, Fiona! Unfortunately, you are right, but I hope that democracy will prevail.
Yes... a psychic COVID...

Thank you! I believe that things will change, even when everything looks bleak now. Let's keep fighting.
